Value Painting

I recently heard a good practice for understanding how color, & light work together is to paint using  only values. The most challenging part was do this without "undoing" any mistakes in Photoshop, embracing these so-called "happy accidents". I must say, extremely frustrating but after mistake 100,039 I liked the way these came out.

Keep Learning

So it's been a long time since my last post. Life has been a little hectic and with the new year now in effect I started thinking about where I would like to be as an artist. After some soul searching and honest self evaluation I starting going back to the basics. In my recent studies I realize that being great at any craft is really understanding the basics, and talent is knowing how to use them in communicating your idea. With that said here's a perspective drawing I did in 1 point perspective. My goal is to be better by understanding how the environment works.

Creation & Noah

This is work-in-progress, I'm trying to multitask by painting 2 illustrations at the same time. I noticed during the previous piece there were instances where I was finding myself getting bored over the details, not to mention that it took quiet a long time. I discovered , through searching, online that I am not the only one that experience this. A suggested solution was to do multiple paintings, but try to keep them consistent with each other. This is actually helping, if I get tired of looking at one piece I just switch to the other, which give me a fresh eye every time.

I know it's been a long time since I've uploaded something. Here's a near recent piece where I feel like I'm understand more about composition and coloring.

Finally done

Finally I'm done. I'm sure I could have add more element to make this piece more fun, but I gave myself a time limit and I've reached the end of it. I'm very happy with the final rendering. This took a total of 8hrs, painting a few hours here and there.

Something clicked

I'm starting to understand more about digital painting. This is still work in process, however I really like how this is developing. There's several "happy accidents" that in some areas gave me a different perspective on achieving my goal.
